One might surmise the delay in posting a New Year greeting could possibly be attributed to the Captain perhaps over imbibing in beverages fermented prior to ingesting in a celebratory manner on New Year’s Eve. Nothing could be further from the truth. Unfortunately a test of one’s sobriety or lack thereof does not necessarily have a direct correlation to the amount of alcohol in one’s blood and this I fear is borne out by an examination of the Captain’s state of mind.
Regardless there is no forgivable excuse and for the digression other than to take your mind away from the topic first raised. Now on with the show.
Pics from New Years Eve Hike
New Years Eve
The lack of invitations to attend a formal NYE gala found Debbie Dewdrops and CC looking forward to once again retiring by a reasonable 9:00 pm as per our normal routine. To put a damper on this plan Lonesome Larry and Busty Barb the Believer crashed the slumber party and managed to keep their hosts awake until the very late hour of 11:00 pm. Not quite midnight but pretty darn close.
DD prepared another great solar dinner (macaroni and cheese) for us all and the evening was spent listening to golden oldies (somewhat apropos) and a bit of melancholy with lyrics from Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon:
“Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it’s sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you’re older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I’d something more to say”
But of course there is no dark side of the moon, it’s all dark.
DD and BBB also finished the year off in triumphant fashion by soundly thrashing the boys at dominos.
New Years Day Hike
The Captain not so easily managed to rouse DD fairly early on New Year ’s Day (see paragraph 1 above) for an invigorating hike (7.5 miles) around the reservoir. It was very much a snooze fest after that I’m afraid.
Despite the above result CC and LL consulted their Ouija Boards and fearlessly made a New Year’s resolution that they intended an undefeated year with the tiles. No sooner avowed and the boys took the first match of the 2016 season from the girls hardly breaking a sweat.
Comings and Goings
This week sees the arrival of Hawk and Red Fox travelling in from Tucson for the next couple of months. One wonders if they have spent some time working on their cribbage game in our absence not that we suggest it needed some fine tuning but it never hurts to practice.
Jezebel Jeannine (JJ) and Dashing Dave rumbled into the LTVA yesterday and despite a couple of minor miscues (broken TV antenna on RV and running over and breaking a fire hydrant – not so minor) they arrived safe and sound. The downside is that they seemed to have brought some Missouri rain with them. Oh well helps keep the dust down.
BBB and LL are out of town in Apache Junction this week for repairs to the motor home ensuring LL and CC bragging rights at least for a few more days.
2015 – The Year in Review
It was my intention to write up a comprehensive review of our travels and adventures in 2015 but the more I thought about it the less the idea appealed to me. My copious blog posts cover it off pretty well and even though it would be a convenience to my readers rather than slogging through each post there it is.
Suffice to say we logged over 13,000 miles from Yuma to Vancouver Island, back home to Vernon, then a trip to Alaska and back to Vernon, on to Kingston and finally back to Yuma. I get tired just thinking about it! Along the way, we loved our visits with granddaughter Alyssa, our son Aaron, our parents and siblings. We also enjoyed the hospitality and friendship of Bouncy Bernice, Fearless Frank, Busty Barb the Believer, Lonesome Larry, Jezebel Jeannine and Dashing Dave. As I have set out before we really have been blessed with the wonderful people we have met on our travels and hometowns.
DD says I have to make a special recognition of Excellent Eric the Exalted for the Jays tickets and to warn him she will be back!!!!
