As will soon be evidenced, the old adage of “all good things come to those who wait” is not always the case. Last post I promised to upload our pictures and videos from the Progressive Insurance booth at the Quartzsite RV Show. Well here they are and I doubt anyone who spent more than a passing thought in anticipation of these contributions will be sorely disappointed.
Jeep Screech Trip with Jaws
Having previously experienced being in a vehicle with Debbie Dewdrops while on a sketchy road and having read last week’s Blog Post one can only wonder what possessed Lonesome Larry and Busty Barb the Believer to invite DD on this week’s Jaws Jaunts Jeep safari into the desert wilderness. Perhaps they had hoped their not quite heartfelt invitation might be turned down by the Dewdropian one. Alas, this was not to be the case and once the journey began there was no going back. So suffice to say, that over the next several hours we were subjected to an almost continuous overly melodramatic screeching, moaning and wailing that had it been an act surely would have garnered DD an Oscar nomination. Proof-reader’s note: definite exaggeration here!
In surely what was a magnificent piece of driving Lonesome Larry was able to keep us from tumbling down any of the available precipices and the jeep remained upright as we meandered through some spectacular backcountry.
Mitry Lake Hike
A respectable sized group including rookie hikers Greg and Kathy, arrived for the annual Mitry Lake hike. This hike while shorter than some we take (4.5 miles), offers some great scenic views and boulder filled washes present a challenge. As a warm-up for the hike Lonesome Larry and the Captain biked the 10 miles to the trailhead.
Mexican Dominoes and Dinner
Friday heralded the 1st annual DDDD (Debbie Dewdrops Dominoes and Dinner). The inaugural theme was Mexican which included Mexican food and Mexican dominoes. The dominoes challenge saw the 4 girls (DD, BBB, Red Fox and Kathy) take on the boys (CC, LL, Hawk and Greg) who seemed to be somewhat distracted by the forthcoming full moon and went down to defeat rather easily if I do say so myself. Not all was lost however, and as an act of retribution Hawk supplied the firewood and built a huge bonfire for the evenings sing-along to a collection of classic rock hits in honour of Bowie and Fry.
The Captain and Lonesome Larry in a fit of full moon madness decided to venture out into the desert night with only moonlight to light the way. This late night walk was quite surrealistic. Fortunately the dynamic duo was not set upon by any marauding bands of burros or coyotes and safely found their way home unscathed. Well almost unscathed as the Captain was tripped up once by a cleverly hidden rock and was heard to exclaim ” tis but a scratch”. LL also tripped a few times but his younger reflexes saved the day and kept him upright. meanwhile back on the home front DD and BBB enjoyed a girls night movie.
What CC thought would be a great night for photographs dimmed considerably when he discovered the battery in the camera was out of juice so there is little evidence available of this historic trip.
