DD Gets Her DD

As petrified as we were to leave the Forest (see previous Blog post) we bravely headed north back to Canada where we will spend the next 6 months visiting family and taking a trip to the east coast of Canada including Newfoundland.  Our first important stop on the journey home would be a return engagement at the Tague Farm in Cameron, MO with our dear friends Dashing Dave and Jezebel Jeannine. Along the way we made overnight stops at Ute Lake State Park in New Mexico and Dodge City KS.  There was a decided shift in the weather pattern as we headed north, as the temperatures began to drop and the sun sort of went on vacation. Another downer was the inability of Debbie Dewdrops to relieve the Boot Hill Casino at Dodge City of loot. DD has been shut out twice now by the masked bandits of Boot Hill and she vows to never set foot in the place again without a new pair of steel toed boots with which to kick some butt.

What can you possibly say about the Cameron Tagues who over and over again allow and sort of even insist that DD and CC spend a few days at the Farm as we pass through the Show Me State on our travels? When it comes right down to it I honestly believe Dashing Dave and JJ feel they are providing a much need humanitarian service by keeping us on the ”Farm” where we will not be a menace to the general population.

Now as hospitable as the Tague’s are, we were somewhat disappointed that on this particular visit they allowed a snowfall to visit itself upon us.  But maybe they were simply acclimatizing us for things to come.  As has become the norm when we visit Dave and JJ,  a day trip to the Amish settlement near Jamesport allowed the Captain to restock his dwindling supply of the world’s best ginger snaps.  After securing the supplies we met with Steve and Madelynn (also Yuma desert friends) for dinner and a visit. Several rounds of dominos between the boys and girls once again netted no clear winner though I expect JJ may want to dispute this as she does not seem to take kindly to not being victorious.

All kidding aside, we count Dave and Jeannine as two of our best friends and if they ever get up the gumption to come to the Great White North for a visit we’ll show ’em what a snowfall really looks like!

The Land of the Double Double

Fleeing the winterish weather of Cameron,  DD and the Captain made a mad 2 day dash to the Canadian border crossing of Part Huron, MI/ Sarnia, ON and settled in for a one night stopover at the local Wal-Mart which was amazingly conveniently located almost next door to that great Canadian home of the iconic Double Double, Tim Horton’s. In no time at all after parking the rig we were satisfactorily ensconced at Tim’s enjoying a DD. We enjoyed a second cup for BBB and Lonesome Larry whom I am sure would rather have been with us in the cold north than sweating it out at Valley of Fire.

Leaving Sarnia, with snow storms threatening we headed directly to the Bath House home of the Captain’s parents, the Coach and the Aud One. Our early and surprise arrival was timely, as we helped celebrate the Aud One’s 85th birthday on the 23rd. Happy Birthday Mom.  A birthday lunch for the Aud One will be happening on Easter Sunday.

Our early arrival was also timely in that the promised snow and freezing rain arrived with what would hopefully be the last blast of winter. And I must also point out at this time that we are greatly disillusioned and angry with Willy the Puny Pugnacious Prognosticator from Wiarton (WWPPP). The rotten little rodent came out of his hole on February 2nd and predicted, upon seeing his shadow, six more weeks of winter. So like winter should have been over a week ago Willy. What’s the deal.

Standing On A Corner

Another surprise kids!  2 blog posts in 2 days. Will this insanity ever stop!!!This will bring all you faithful readers up to date on our meanderings. Hopefully this will not cause any our readers to throw in the towel in dismay and disown us immediately. I promise never to subject anyone to a repeat of repeating blog posts.

That said we made the Chino Valley the first stop on our journey home. Chino Valley is the home of our desert friends Jerry and Sandy and it just so happened that we arrived on Jerry’s 72nd birthday. Steve and Madelynn from the desert also were using Jerry and Sandy’s as a convenient layover on their trip home to Missouri. On our way there we stopped in for a brief tour of Prescott.

We spent our time there with an afternoon jam session in the garage although this definitely wasn’t a grunge garage band as country music was the order of the day followed with a birthday dinner at the Red Lobster. CC was able to find 3 vegetarian side dishes while DD gorged herself on a variety of ocean going creatures.

On a very sad note a dear friend of Jerry and Sandy’s, Hap who played in the afternoon garage session passed away early the next morning. Hap was long time playing buddy of Jerry’s and we know his guitar riffs will be missed by all his musician friends and wife Judy.

On a lighter note,  a hard fought domino game was won by the girls over the boys. Hard to believe but there it is.

Walnut Canyon National Monument

Heading out from Chino Valley our intention had been to head north to Page Arizona on Lake Powell for a couple of days of beach RVing however due to global warming the weather was going to be too inclement for this soirée and we headed east instead and made a stop at the Walnut Canyon National Monument for a hike through the canyon observing the cliff dwellings of the Hopi Indians. This was a return trip for the Captain who made the trek with the Coach and the Aud One about 15 years ago.

Taking  It  Easy

Here is the answer to yesterday’s blog quiz:

“Well I’m standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona

And such a fine sight to see

It’s a girl my Lord in a flatbed ford

Slowin’ down to look at me

Come on baby, don’t say maybe

I gotta know if your sweet love is going to save me…”

DD insisted on this local for a visit and my guess is she didn’t say maybe and perhaps her love did save me??

Another One Bites the Dust

So yes “Another One Bites the Dust” was the right song to be singing on our last full day in the desert for this season as we enjoyed another great wind storm that filled the skies with enough dust to blot out the surrounding mountains and refill all the nooks and crannies in the trailer so recently diligently swabbed out by DD.

With another season in the books many of our friends here have packed up and headed home while some of the hardier ones (Hawk and Red Fox, Buster, Jim and Virginia, RRR and Arlette, Andre and Danielle) will hang in until it finally sinks in that perhaps it is just too damn hot for all but the rattlesnakes and burros.

But before we parted ways Lonesome Larry and Busty Barb the Believer hosted a pancake breakfast for DD and the Captain plus Mom and Dad Haney (Joyce and Carl), Greg and Kathie and Hawk and Red Fox. The highlight of the morning was Hawk’s telling his tale of a failed infantile attempt to get himself into the Guinness Book of World records. I must spare some of the unpalatable details of this story but can tell you Hawk’s attempt to recognized by the Guinness folks involved the collecting of as many pounds of toe and fingernail clippings as humanly possible. Yuk. Fortunately this effort was thwarted by one of his parental units before the Board of Health was alerted to an impending health crisis.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

Departure day had us make a very short trek to Surprise, AZ where 2 of our friends from our hometown of Vernon, BC, Chris and Jim (and doggie Brandy) were living the life of luxury at a 5 star resort in Surprise (near Phoenix). Although this side trip took us decidedly off our planned course of travel (not) the Captain deemed it necessary at any cost as Chris and Jim had in their possession a box of the Captain’s favourite yummy Lindt dark chocolate bars (not available in the USA) for delivery to Guess Who!!!!

Regardless that DD and the Captain were relegated to camping out at a nearby Wal-Mart we did enjoy the swimming pool and other facilities the resort had to offer as Chris and Jim’s guests. We also enjoyed a morning hike with Chris, Jim and Brandy up the White Tank Mountain Trail.

Complaint

CC is already way behind in posting to the Blog and is trying unsuccessfully it seems to play catch..

Response

Glen Frey as Guest Responder suggests that CC “takes it easy” which just coincidentally is a clue to one of our destinations soon to be reported upon.
