Hopefully my faithful readers will not be to hard on me for the next 2 posts that will be relatively brief as I attempt to bring things up to date. Unfortunately there are only so many spare hours in a day to spare to this humdrum task when there are far more exciting things to which I must attend.
Hamilton – May 31, 2016
The City of Hamilton lays claim to being the City of Waterfalls as it fortuitous location along the Niagara Escarpment lends itself to things falling down and in this case most notably rivers and creeks. We set up our base camp at a Walmart just outside the city
The Waterfall Hikes – June 1, 2016
Our first day trip into Hamilton took us on hikes to several waterfalls including Websters Falls, Tews Falls Dundas Point and Tiffany Falls. Great little hikes to these falls but the entry fee of $10 per vehicle and $5 per person seemed a little rich especially as some parking areas were not monitored and the ticket machines were not working?? but as good law abiding citizens we paid and grumbled our way around. A very enjoyable day regardless as the fee allowed entry to all of the different Hamilton Conservation Areas.
From the waterfall hikes we headed to the 50 point Conservation Area. On our way we stopped at a lookout where we could see across Lake Ontario to Toronto and the CN Tower.
Chedoke Stairs – June 2, 2016
Hamilton is also known for its many staircases that climb up the escarpment and which locals use for fitness training. In total there are over 1800 stairs on numerous staircases. On Day 2 in Hamilton we scaled the 289 Chedoke Staircase and wandered along the trials below. A fairly leisurely but enjoyable hike.
